Great city rivalries

Posted on: May 27, 2008 11:43 am

I have to say that I think some of the absolute best sports rivalries are between New York and Boston.  In almost all sports these to cities pretty much hate each other.  One of the things that I have always wondered is; why do fans have anomosity towards the other fans?  I was at a Giants/Titans game when the fans started to chant Eagles Suck!!.  To me this makes no sense.  Is this only a New York/New Jersey thing or do other rival teams fans do the same?

Here are my top 5 city rivalries.

1) NY-NJ/Boston Baseball, Football, Hockey

2) Chicago and Greenbay Football

3) NY-NJ and Philly Football, baseball, hockey basketball

4) Boston and LA Basketball

5) Any intercity rivalries (NY/NY, NY/NJ/ Chicago, LA)

I am interested in what you all think.  Let me know.

Great city rivalries

In the Jordan era I have to say Chicago New York in basketball....  If you were from Indiana, you would know that Indiana and Purdue DESPISE eachother...

Great city rivalries

It would have to be the Red Sox Yankees rivalry.  By far the best and longest going on to date.  How could you not see these to teams as pure enemies but yet respect each other and have been playing against eachother in the same divsion for over a hundred years.  And not only that, but the fasion that games where played in and personal battle between players and post season drama.  You cant beat it, and I can sit here and tell anyone why no other rivalry competes, other than the suni shites over seas.  God bless and go CELTICS!
